Final Round 71 Leaves Delio Tied for 11th at NCAA West Regional

May 21, 2011

RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. - Senior Nick Delio, the all-time leader in stroke average in Cal State Northridge history, capped his collegiate career with an 11th-place finish at the NCAA West Regional Saturday at The Farms G.C.

Delio, a senior from Valencia, Calif., nearly matched his first round 70 as he posted four birdies on Saturday on the way to a final round one under-par 71. He finished the back nine at even-par before carding a one-under 35 on the front to finish at one-under 71 on the day and even-par 216 for the championship.

Delio needed to finish as the top individual in the field but came up seven shots short of repeating his 2010 trip to the NCAA Championship.

"Unfortunately I didn't move on to Nationals," said Delio. "But I'm happy with my performance in my last college tournament. It was fun while it lasted."

Delio, who will go down as arguably the best golfer in Cal State Northridge men's golf history, completed his 2011 season with a 71.48 scoring average.

"Nick had a huge impact on our program," said head coach Jim Bracken. "He was one of the top players in collegiate golf his entire career here. From day one he was a great young man and to accomplish what he did in four years is something special."
