Matadors Finish 10th at Palouse Cougar Collegiate

The Cal State Northridge men's golf team posted team rounds of 297-288-285 to finish 10th in the Matadors' first tournament of 2010-11, the Palouse Cougar Collegiate at Palouse Ridge G.C.

The Matadors dug themselves a hole with an opening round 297 but steadily made their way up the leaderboard with rounds of 288 and 285 over the final two rounds. Northridge's score of 870 left them just four shots from ninth place. Washington State finished first for the second time in as many years as the Cougars (827) held off Idaho (839) by 12 strokes. Portland (847) was third, Santa Clara (85) was fourth and San Jose State (855) was fifth in the 16-team field.

Senior Nick Delio was the lone Northridge golfer to finish in the top-20 as he posted rounds of 74-71-70 to finish at one under-par 215. Sophomore Chris Russo was one shot back of Delio in 22nd place with rounds of 73-72-71. Russo finished at even par 216.

Satch Herrmann, playing his first tournament for the Matadors since the 2008-09 season, finished tied for 42nd with among others, teammate Arthur Chung. Hermann posted rounds of 76-72-72 while Chung checked in with rounds of 74-74-72. Both players were (+4) 220 followed by Davis Kirkland who finished tied for 52nd at (+5) 221 after rounds of 76-73-72.

Idaho had the top two golfers in the individual chase as Damian Telles won medalist honors with a blistering three round score of 15 under-par 201 which edged teammate Jarred Bossio by two shots.

Cal State Northridge returns to action Oct. 2-4 as the Matadors play in the Cabo Intercollegiate in Cabo San Lucas.
