Matadors in Fifth After Two Rounds of the Purple and Red Invitational

LAYTON, Utah - The Cal State Northridge men's golf team shot a blistering opening round 283 followed by a second round 291 as the Matadors are fifth heading into Tuesday's final round of the Purple and Red Invitational at Valley View G.C.

Northridge was just one shot off the team pace after one round but finished the second round at 291 and sit at 574 heading into Tuesday's final 18 holes. The University of Arkansas-Little Rock carded rounds of 286-276 (562) and holds a five-shot lead over Weber State (567) after two rounds. Southern Utah (569) is third, Northern Colorado (573) is fourth, followed by the Matadors.

Individually, Jason Rosenkranz leads Northridge as the junior is tied for sixth at (-3) 141. Rosenkranz carded an opening round 70 and a second round 71 and is five shots behind leader Jake Johnson of Sacramento State who fired rounds of 67-69 (136) and has a two-shot edge over Jeff Evans of Southern Utah and Troy Sidebras of Northern Colorado.

Junior Nick Delio is currently tied for 22nd at (+1) 145 after rounds of 73-72, Chris Russo is tied for 27th at (+2) 146 after rounds of 70-76, Casey Piper is tied for 33rd at (+3) 147 after rounds of 70-77 and Davis Kirkland is tied for 37th at (+4) 148 after rounds of 76-72.
