Nick Delio Selected as an Individual for NCAA Men's Golf Championships
May 5, 2009
Cal State Northridge sophomore Nick Delio has been selected by the The NCAA Division I Men's Golf Committee to participate in the 2009 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships.
Delio is one of 10 golfers selected to compete as Individuals at the West Region Tournament at Lake Merced Golf Club in Daly City, Calif. Delio was the third individual selected for the West Regional which also features the Big West's Geoff Gonzalez of Cal Poly.
"I'm very happy for Nick," said head coach Jim Bracken. "He has had two solid seasons at Northridge, posting the two lowest single-season scoring averages in school history, so this is certainly well deserved."
"This is also an opportunity for Nick to play the course where he will be defending his State Amateur championship," added Bracken.
Delio, a two-time First Team All-Big West Conference selection, finished the regular season with a team-best 72.34 stroke average after finishing his freshman season with a school-record 71.94 average. He posted five top-10 finishes and a pair of top-20 finishes for the Matadors during the recent 2008-09 season.
The six 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted May 14-16. Thirteen teams and ten individuals not on those teams will compete at each of three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams will advance to the finals from each regional.
The championships will be conducted May 26-30 at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio. The University of Toledo is the host institution for this year's championships.
