Second Round 69 Gives Nick Delio the Lead at NCAA Southwest Regional

May 21, 2010

SANTEE, Calif. - Cal State Northridge junior Nick Delio took over the individual lead at the NCAA Southwest Regional after firing a three under-par 69 in the second round on Friday at Carlton Oaks G.C.

The junior from Valencia, Calif, opened with a (-1) 71 on Thursday and was tied for fourth after one round. But Delio matched Daniel Miernicki of Oregon with the low round on Friday to move one shot in front of the field with a two-round total of four under-par 140.

"Nick played really well today," said head coach Jim Bracken. "If he plays the way he's been playing tomorrow he'll be tough to beat. But this is the NCAA's and there's a lot of good players here."

Delio holds a one-shot lead over both Miernicki (-3, 141) and Eddie Olson of UNLV (-3, 141). Four golfers are tied at even-par 144. The top five teams from the NCAA San Diego Regional and the low individual not on those squads qualify for the national championships slated for next month in Chattanooga, Tenn.

"This course suits Nick's game very well," added Bracken. "I dont think he will beat himself tomorrow but someone in the field could really post a low score."

Delio will tee-off in the final round at 9:50 a.m. off the No. 10 tee.
