Forward Zachary DeVille Representing Guam in International Competition
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. –
Zachary DeVille, a sophomore forward on the Cal State Northridge Men's Soccer team, is spending his summer with Team Guam in a series of international matches in the Philippines. The Matao, as the national team is referred to, are preparing for the East Asian Football Championships to be held on Guam in July.
"It is always exciting and good for the program when a member of the team represent his country," said Northridge head coach Terry Davila. "We are proud of Zach's successes and look forward to putting his experience to use in the fall."
DeVille, who attended University City High School in San Diego before joining the Matadors, appeared in nine matches for Northridge in his first season. He rejoins a strong attacking front for Coach Davila and the Matadors as the squad looks to improve on its successes in 2011.
Team Guam opened its friendly slate with a match against the Philippines National Soccer Team on June 12 and also went up against Global FC and the Stallion FC Gilligan's, two professional clubs in Manila.
In the game against Global FC, DeVille set up the first goal of the game for Guam with a cross to captain Jason Cunliffe. He then added a goal of his own in the 47th minute with a powerful header in traffic.
