Joe Franco Adds Scholar All-America Honor to Resume
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. -
After a remarkable career in which he started every match he competed in, Cal State Northridge senior defender Joe Franco continues to add to his collection of postseason awards. On Friday Franco was named to the 2012 Men's Scholar All-America Second Team by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, the NSCAA announced.
To be eligible for the Scholar All-America Team, a student-athlete must carry a 3.30 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. Honorees are also selected based on their on-field performance and other recognitions from the college soccer community.
Franco was the only player selected from the Big West Conference after achieving a 3.94 GPA as a Finance major. Franco was also recently invited to the 2013 adidas MLS Player Combine, which will take place from January 11-15 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
After anchoring the defense during his senior campaign, Franco was named the Big West Conference Defensive Player of the Year and earned a spot on the All-Big West First Team. He was also named to the NSCAA All-Far West Region Second Team at the end of the season.
