Trio of Matadors Named to All-Far West Region Teams
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. -
Following a season that ended in the NCAA Tournament Second Round, the Cal State Northridge Matadors landed three players on the NSCAA's All-Far West Region team, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America announced Monday. Sagi Lev-Ari, Beto Velasquez and Trevor Morley each picked up a spot on the list for the Matadors.
Lev-Ari was named to the All-Far West Region First Team in 2013 after earning a place on the Second Team a season ago. As a junior this year for the Matadors, Lev-Ari led the nation with 16 goals and 38 points entering the NCAA Tournament. He scored five game-winning goals and had five multi-goal games, including two hat tricks. In addition, he recorded six assists to bring his career points total to 68 in just 45 matches for Cal State Northridge. When Lev-Ari scored at least one point in a match this season, CSUN went 11-1. He was also named to the All-Big West Conference First Team at season's end and is a finalist for Soccer News Net's College Boot (fan voting here) and a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy presented by the Missouri Athletic Club, recognizing college soccer's player of the year (fan voting here).
Velasquez was named to the All-Far West Region Second Team after compiling five goals, nine assists and 19 points this year. He led the Big West Conference in assists and earned a spot on the All-Big West First Team as well. He had a pair of assists on two occasions: in the season-opening win over Albany and in Lev-Ari's hat trick performance at then-No. 10 UC Santa Barbara in the Big West Tournament Semifinal. When Velasquez recorded at least one point in a match, the Matadors went 10-1.
Morley was chosen to the All-Far West Region Third Team and was also an All-Big West First Team honoree this year. He started 22 matches for the Matadors in 2013 and recorded one assist. His helper set up Pol Schonhofer Bartra's goal for the first Northridge tally of the season. As a center back, Morley helped the team to 15 victories and six shutouts. He helped out the attack on occasion, taking 13 shots on the year.
