Ivan Alzate returns to the sidelines for the Matador men's soccer program in 2008. An accomplished player and coach, 2008 represents Alzate's fifth season as an assistant with the men's program and he also served five seasons as an assistant coach for the Matador women's program. Nicknamed "Ikes", Alzate previously spent three seasons (1997-99) as a member of former men's head coach Mawan Ass'ad's staff and teamed with current head coach Terry Davila during the 2004 campaign. Alzate also worked as a women's assistant coach from 2000-2004. Prior to arriving at Northridge, Alzate accumulated many coaching accomplishments in the club soccer. Alzate graduated from Southwest Miami Senior High in Miami in 1984, where he played high school soccer and was named to the All-County team three years in a row. Alzate then played for Miami Dade Community College, where he earned his A.A. degree before transferring to Northridge and receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chicano Studies. He also owns a "D" National Coaching License. Alzate was born in Hackensack, N.J. and is married to Jody Preis and the couple has four children: Niko, Quentin, Gabriela and Enzo.
