DAVIS, Calif. - Playing to a scoreless draw throughout the first 108 minutes of the match, the Cal State Northridge Matadors (2-9-2, 1-3-1 BWC) were only moments away from earning one point on the road against the UC Davis Aggies (5-8, 3-2 BWC).
Unfortunately for CSUN, a header from Davis midfielder Ethan Shawlee found what little empty space was available in the upper right-hand corner of the net to score the decisive goal in the 109th minute as UC Davis defeated CSUN by a final score of 1-0 at Aggie Stadium Saturday night.
Finishing with ten overall shots taken, Gustavo Villalobos led all Matadors with four and was one of three Matadors who were able to fire a shot on goal. Teammates Alberto Rosas and Chris Smith each finished the match with one shot taken, forcing the Davis `keeper to make the necessary save to preserve his half of the scoreless tie.
Both goalkeepers matched the efforts of one another as Matador goalkeeper Michael Abalos finished the first half with one save, and the second half with two. Abalos also saved two additional shots in the first overtime session.
Northridge will now travel back to the Valley to face UC Irvine at Matador Soccer Field this Wednesday evening, kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
