NORTHRIDGE, Calif. -

Former Matador defender Sean Franklin has been named to the fan ballot for the 2011 Major League Soccer All-Star Game.

The ballot, compiled by a panel of soccer-oriented media, features 108 players for whom the public can vote ahead of July 27's clash between the MLS All-Stars and historic Manchester United at Harrison, New Jersey's Red Bull Arena.

The voting will decide the first 11 players named to the MLS All-Star squad. Fans can vote through www.MLSsoccer.com, by text message, or on Twitter.

Franklin, a four-year standout for the Matadors, was selected fourth overall in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft by the Los Angeles Galaxy.

It took the defender little time to impress fans and pundits, as he garnered 2008 MLS Rookie of the Year and team Defender of the Year honors in a season in which he made 27 appearances (26 starts), tallying one assist in the process.

After a hamstring injury limited his action in 2009, Franklin reestablished himself as an integral part of the Galaxy backline in 2010, scoring his first goal for the club and picking up a career-high six assists. His performances earned him a call-up to the U.S. men's national team in January 2011, as he made his senior debut against Chile in a 1-1 draw.

At CSUN, Franklin produced a decorated career in which he was a three-time first team All-Big West selection (2005-07) and a one-time second team selection (2004). He earned regional recognition, as well, as he was named to the All-Far West Region third team in 2005 and second team in 2006. A defender who likes to get forward to support the attack, he also led the Matadors with six assists in 2005.
