NORTHRIDGE, Calif. -
The Cal State Northridge men's and women's soccer programs will host their annual Kickoff Fundraiser Breakfast on Aug. 16 at Stonefire Grill in West Hills. The event, now in its sixth year, is $45 per person and $10 for children under 12 with all proceeds from the event going directly to the programs.
"This is a great event and opportunity for our fans to meet and interact with our team before the start of the season," men's soccer Head Coach Terry Davila said. "We are committed to putting out quality soccer at Cal State Northridge and this banquet helps us achieve our goals."
Stonefire Grill is located at Fallbrook and Victory in West Hills with the event beginning at 8 a.m. The team is also seeking donations to help cover the costs of the players' meals. No RSVP is required for the event, though any questions should be directed to Cindy Hanks at 818-340-4468.
"We are very excited for the start of the 2009 season and this event signals that the start of the season is just around the corner," women's soccer Head Coach Keith West added. "We strongly encourage all supporters of Matador soccer to attend and help us kick off what should be another successful campaign on the pitch."
The Matador women's soccer program will be the first to hit the field in 2009, opening the season with a pair of games in San Diego. On Aug. 21, the Matadors meet the University of San Diego at 7 p.m. and then square off against San Diego State on Aug. 23 at 1 p.m. The women's first home game will be an Aug. 27 tilt against Loyola Marymount at Matador Soccer Field starting at 5 p.m.
Davila and the men's program open the season with an exhibition home contest against UNLV on Aug. 28 starting at 4:30 p.m. The Matadors' 2009 regular season home opener is Sept. 6 against Loyola Marymount at 4:30 p.m.
On Sept. 11 and 13, the Matadors will host Farleigh-Dickinson, UW-Milwaukee and Cal State Fullerton as part of The Big West Challenge. CSUN faces Farleigh-Dickinson on Sept. 11 at 4:30 p.m., and then faces UW-Milwaukee on Sept. 13 at 1:30 p.m. Matches involving Big West rival Cal State Fullerton will precede both games.
