NORTHRIDGE, Calif. -
With his team facing a 1-0 deficit early in their CONCACAF Champions League match against the Puerto Rico Islanders, Los Angeles Galaxy defender Sean Franklin capped his team's come-from-behind effort by scoring the game-winning goal in the 84th minute to give the Galaxy a 2-1 victory.
The goal was Franklin's first as a member of Galaxy. Scored from just inside the penalty area, Franklin corralled the ball with his back originally to the goal before taking the decisive shot that past Islanders netminder Bill Guadette.
"I'm super happy that I got the goal," stated Franklin in a post-game interview conducted by teammate Bryan Jordan for lagalaxy.com. "I took a touch, spun my guy, and took the shot."
Franklin and his teammates had little time to rest and recover from their trip to Puerto Rico as they had mere days to prepare for an exhibition match against one of the most popular soccer clubs in the world in real Madrid.
Major League Soccer (MLS) competition will resume when the Galaxy travel to New York to face the Red Bulls on Saturday, August 14.
"It's nice going into Real Madrid with a little bit of confidence, hopefully we can play well against them, and then show up in New York and get the result we want which is hopefully a win."
