NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - With a spot in the Big West Men's Soccer Tournament on the line, Devin Deldo's two goals not only helped Northridge earn a spot in the postseason, but also the final Big West Conference Athlete of the Week honor.
Playing in his final regular season game of his collegiate career, forward Devin Deldo scored two of the three Matador goals (3rd and 20th minutes) against UC Irvine last Saturday evening, including the game-winner which took place shortly after kick-off.
Deldo only took two shots throughout the entire game; both were on goal and ended up becoming the first and second goals scored this season by the fifth-year senior.
"I feel really happy about receiving the award from the Conference, but I am even more excited that our team was able to win the game in Irvine and earn an opportunity to compete in the playoffs," stated the fifth-year senior.
"I really want to thank the trainers and medical staff at the school as well because I would not have been able to accomplish anything on the field this season if it were not for all of their hard work and dedication."
Deldo's two-goal performance, the first of his collegiate career, was extremely timely as they helped Northridge clinch the final remaining spot in this week's Big West Tournament and a return trip to Santa Barbara to face the Gauchos.
That game will take place this Wednesday, November 11 at Harder Stadium on the campus of UC Santa Barbara. Both a live audio feed and GameTracker will be available at www.GoMatadors.com, kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
