AUSTIN, Texas - Cal State Northridge senior Jackie Harrison highlighted the Matadors' performance on day one of the NCAA West Preliminary Round at Mark A. Myers Stadium.
Harrison, who came in with a personal-best of 53.50, improved on that time after running 53.26 to finish second in her heat and seventh overall among 48 sprinters. The top three in each of the six heats plus the next nine best times advance to Friday's quarterfinal round at 6:15 p.m.
On the men's side Thursday, Tucker Weathers came up just short of his season-best in the shot put while finishing 24th out of 47 throwers in the first round. Weathers came in with a season-best of 57-0.25 (17.38) and posted a best of 57-0 (17.37) on Thursday to take second in his flight and 24th overall.
Serveral Matadors will be in action Friday as Michael Woodham will compete in the 110 meter hurdles, Donovan Toban will compete in the triple jump, Harrison will run the 400 quarters and Kemar Marsden will look to advance in the 200 meters.
