Justin Johnson is in his second season as a member of Avery Anderson's track & field coaching staff in 2012-13. In Johnson's first season, Ese Ntekume won the Big West triple jump championship and reached the NCAA West Regionals for the first time.
Johnson, a Cal State Northridge decathlete, returned to the Matador track & field program in 2011-12 after two seasons as an assistant coach at Tulane. He will be in charge of the women's sprints and horizontal jumps.
Johnson was the 2009 runner up in the heptathlon at the USA Track & Field Indoor Championships in the spring of 2009. A three-time National Championship participant in the decathlon for the Matadors at Cal State Northridge, Johnson holds school records for both the heptathlon and decathlon. Three times he finished as the Big West Conference's runner up in the decathlon, and was the 2007 Western Athletic Conference heptathlon champion.
Johnson graduated from Northridge with a Bachelor Degree of Science in Kinesiology in May of 2008, and in his free time, worked as a personal trainer in 2008-09.
