The Matadors were shutout on the opening day of the competition as five CSUN standouts did not make it out of the qualifying round Thursday.
CSUN fared no better on Friday but Reid and Woodham came the closest to advancing. Reid and Horsley competed in the 200 meters and Reid finished 26th in a time of 21.67 while Horsley was 31st in 21.75. The top-24 advanced to the next round and the final time to move on was 21.63, edging out Reid by .04. Reid and Horsley both finished fifth in their respective heats.
In the 110 meter hurdles, Woodham ran the fastest time of anyone who did not advance. Woodham ran 14.25 to finish fifth in the third heat but was one spot out of the top-24. Eric Hersey of Oregon (14.28) and Mantas Sailkauskas of Kansas State (14.31) both had slower times than Woodham but advanced by finishing in the top-three of their respective heats.
Johnson cleared a top height of 6-9 (2.06) after converting on his second attempt. He then missed on all three attempts at 6-11 (2.11) which more than likely would have advanced him to the NCAA Championships. Only the top-12 high jumpers advanced.
Webberley, the two-time Big West champion, improved from her 33rd-place finish from 2010 as she finished tied for 31st on Friday. Webberley, who came in with a school record vault of 13-1.75 (4.01), converted on her first attempt at 12-1.50 (3.70) before facing unfavorable wind conditions in her three attempts at 12-7.50 (3.85). She then missed on her all three attempts and settled for a 31st-place finish.
Senior Desirae Gonder looks to become the first Matador to advance as she opens competition in her best event, the high jump, Saturday at 12:15 p.m. CSUN will also send its men's 4x100 relay team out at 1:15 p.m. and the women's 4x400 relay at 4:25 p.m. looking to be one of the 12 fastest teams and advance to the NCAA Championships.
