Desirae Gonder Finishes 17th in High Jump at U.S. Olympic Trials

June 30, 2008

EUGENE, Ore. - Sophomore Desirae Gonder finished 17th in the women's high jump prelims after clearing 5-10.50 (1.79) at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Ore., on Monday.

Gonder, a sophomore from Bakersfield, Calif., was one of 26 women's high jumpers hoping to make the U.S. Olympic Team. Unfortunately for the 2008 NCAA All-American and Big West runner-up, her 17th place finish will not advance her to the event final.

She fouled on her first two attempts at 1.79 meters before clearing on her final attempt. Gonder then missed on all three attempts at the next height (1.82 meters) and was finished for the competition.

However there was good news for both Gonder and Matador freshman Reindell Cole as both were selected to compete for the U.S. at the 2008 NACAC Under 23 Track & Field Championships from July 18-20, 2008 in Toluca, Mexico.
