NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Former Cal State Northridge men's volleyball middle blocker Jared Moore has signed a professional contract to play for Panathinaikos Volleyball Club in Athens, Greece.
Panathinaikos Volleyball Club is the professional volleyball team of Panathinaikos, the Athens-based multi-sport club. Founded in 1919, it is one of the oldest and most successful volleyball clubs in Greece.
Moore, who played for the Matadors from 2010-13, is a career .371 hitter with 305 kills and 208 career blocks. He ranks 10th in CSUN rally scoring era history in block assists (189) and also ranks 10th in career hitting percentage (.371). Moore hit .396 over his final two seasons as a Matador.
Former Matador players Kevin McKniff (2007-10) and Jacek Ratajczak (2007-10) both helped Moore reach out to agents when his collegiate career was over.
"Kevin and Jak helped me a lot through the process of getting in contact with agents," said Moore who will travel to Greece on Saturday (Aug. 17). "I have only heard good things about the competition over there, some of the best players in history have played in the Greek leagues."
When asked about playing for head coach Jeff Campbell and how that will prepare him for a professional career, Moore said:
"My experience playing at CSUN will help me over there because of all the hard work I put in. Dedication, passion and hard work will take you a long way and CSUN definitely helped me with that."
Moore joins fellow recent CSUN graduate Jacek Ratajczak in the professional ranks. Ratajczak, who has also played professionally in Germany, recently signed to play for Asse-Lennik in Belgium.
