NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - After a hugely successful Alumni match two weeks ago, the Cal State Northridge men's volleyball team continues its busy fall offseason this weekend at the USC Fall Tournament.
The Matadors will play in a pair fall exhibition tournaments over the next two weeks beginning with the USC Fall Tournament this weekend (Nov. 8-9). 12 teams are scheduled to compete this weekend including MPSF foes UCLA, Pepperdine, Long Beach State, UC Santa Barbara, Stanford, Pacific, Hawai'i and Cal Baptist.
CSUN will open the tournament against Lewis on Friday at 5:30 before taking on Hawai'i at 7:15 p.m. Saturday's schedule has the Matadors playing Cal Baptist at 11:30 a.m., UC Santa Barbara at 1:15 p.m. and USC at 3 p.m.
"This tournament will better formulate my decisions going into the next tournament at UCLA and how well we do there will formulate what we do going forward," said Matador Head Coach Jeff Campbell. "These tournaments are important, they give us the opportunity to look as some new players in matches against other teams. It will also gauge where we're at and what we need to work on over the next few weeks."
Northridge wraps up the fall schedule Nov. 22-23 as the Matadors play in the annual UCLA SAC Tournament.
Two weeks ago, the Matadors hosted their annual Alumni match and more than 30 CSUN Alumni gave the 2013 Matador squad all they could handle in a match that lasted five sets. Redshirt freshman Damani Lenore pounded a team-high 19 kills (.306) while sophomore Sam Holt added 18 (.312) to lead the current squad.
The Alumni squad was led by former All-Americans Eric Vance, Matt Stork as well as recent grads Mike Gaudino, Ali'i Keohohou along with Jeff Conover and Tony Rusen among others.
