Jan. 12, 2009

Senior outside hitter Eric Vance was named MPSF Co-Player of the Week following his MVP performance at the UCSB/Elephant Bar Invitational in Santa Barbara last weekend.

Vance, a 2008 first team All-American from Camarillo, Calif., has now been honored by the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation three times in his career. He earned Player of the Week honors twice during his junior season.

Murphy Troy of USC earned a share of the Player of the Week honors with Vance as announced by the MPSF on Monday, Jan. 12.

Vance led Northridge to its first-ever UCSB/Elephant Bar crown as he pounded 60 kills in three Matador wins. In averaging 5.00 kills per game, Vance knocked down a season-high 21 kills as the preseason fifth-ranked Matadors upset No. 2 UCLA in a first round match on Friday. In Saturday's championship match, the senior added 20 more kills to his total as Northridge defeated No. 8 Stanford in four games.

Vance and the Matadors open up MPSF play this week as Northridge, ranked second nationally this week, heads to No. 8 UCLA and No. 5 UC Irvine.
