Matadors Earn At-Large Berth into NCAA Men's Volleyball Championship

Cal State Northridge was awarded the at-large berth into the NCAA Men's Volleyball Championship joining MPSF champion Stanford, MIVA champion Ohio State and EIVA champion Penn State in Stanford next week.

The Matadors (23-9) are seeded second in the four-team field and will meet third-seed Penn State (23-7) on Thursday at 6 p.m. Top-seeded Stanford (22-6) will meet fourth-seed Ohio State (22-7) in the other national semifinal at 8 p.m. All matches will be played at Stanford's Maples Pavilion.

Northridge knows Maples Pavilion well having just played the MSPF semifinals and finals there Thursday and Saturday. The Matadors knocked off BYU in the semifinals in five sets before falling to Stanford in three sets on Saturday.

The NCAA Men's Volleyball Committee announced today the bracket for the 2010 National Collegiate Men's Volleyball Championship. The semifinals and final will take place May 6 and 8, in Stanford, California, at Maples Pavilion. Stanford University is the host.

Four teams were selected to compete for the championship. Automatic qualification was awarded to Stanford University (22-6), the winner of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation; The Ohio State University (22-7), winner of the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association; and Pennsylvania State University (23-7), winner of the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association. One team, California State University, Northridge (23-9), was selected at-large.

Semifinal No. 1 will be #2 seed Cal State Northridge versus #3 seed Penn State and will be broadcast live on Thursday, May 6 at 6 p.m. Pacific time on ESPN2, ESPNU and simulcast. Semifinal No. 2 will be #1 seed Stanford versus #4 seed Ohio State and will be broadcast live on Thursday, May 6 at 8 p.m. Pacific time on ESPNU. The national championship match will be broadcast live on Saturday, May 8 at 4 p.m. Pacific time on ESPN2 and simulcast.
