Campbell Signs Trio to National Letters of Intent

May 31, 2011

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Cal State Northridge men's volleyball coach Jeff Campbell has announced the signing of Travis Magorien, Brian O'Gorman and Julius Höefer to National Letters of Intent to play for the Matadors.

Magorien, a 6-4 setter from Westlake High School in Westlake Village, Calif., is the first player to sign with Cal State Northridge during the early signing period. Magorien is a two-time Marmonte League Most Valuable Player (2010, 2011) and is a three-time first team All-State selection. He helped lead the Warriors to Marmonte League championships in 2009, 2010 and 2011 as well as a CIF Division II championship in 2009. Magorien dished out a career-high 86 assists and added eight digs, five kills and two aces in a CIF Div. I quarterfinal playoff win over Newport Harbor in May, 2011.

"Travis is a welcome addition to our team and he should bolster the position of setter for the Matadors," said Campbell. "He is a great setter and great leader that will work well within our offensive system. We are looking forward to having him in the gym and seeing him compete at the highest level."

O'Gorman, a 6-10 middle blocker from John F. Kennedy High School in Bellmore, NY, is the second player overall and first to sign with Cal State Northridge during the late signing period. O'Gorman was an all-county selection as a middle blocker for the Cougars in both 2010 and 2011. He helped lead his team to three straight Nassau County championships. While in high school he was also an all-country selection as a center for the basketball team. He has also played for the Long Island Volleyball Club and the Long Island Lightning Basketball team.

"Brian is a very talented player with very good skills," said Campbell. "We anticipate him competing for a position in the middle right away. He has great movement skills and a very good arm swing, both of which are remarkable considering his size. He is 6-10 and plays just as big."

Höefer, a 6-8 opposite from Steingaden, Germany, is the third player overall to sign with Cal State Northridge for 2011-12 and the second to sign in the late signing period. Höefer prepped at Landschulheim Kempfenhausen in Berg, Bavaria and graduated in 2011. He has spent the better part of the past three years playing with the German National Team.

"Julius is a top player from Germany and we believe that his high level of play will immediately help out our team at the opposite position," said Campbell. "He has played in many international matches on the junior national team and has gained valuable experience. I expect Julius will make an immediate impact."
