Cal State Northridge men's volleyball takes part in its second and final fall tournament this weekend (Nov. 19-20) as the Matadors take on UC Santa Barbara, UCLA and USC at UCLA's SAC Tourament.
Admission to the tournament is free and all matches will be held at the Student Activities Center (Men's Gym).
Northridge has had a busy fall having competed at the USC Tournament (Oct. 22-23) as well as hosting its annual Alumni match on Nov. 6.
At USC's tournament, the Matadors lost to USC (25-16, 25-19, 15-9), defeated Pacific (25-14, 26-24, 15-7) on day one and lost to UCSB (17-25, 25-22, 15-11) and Long Beach State (25-14, 25-22, 15-11) before defeating UCLA (25-23, 18-25, 15-11) on day two.
"Wins and losses at tournaments like these are certainly not as important as it is to get everybody an opportunity to play," said head coach Jeff Campbell. "We feel good that that happened at the USC Tournament."
At UCLA this weekend, Northridge takes on UC Santa Barbara Friday at 4 p.m., followed by matches against UCLA (10 a.m.) and USC (3 p.m.) on Saturday.
"We're playing three matches in two days and it will be an opportunity for us to see where we're at versus the other teams," said Campbell. "We've had a few weeks of practice since USC and we've got some young players that are going to be out there so it's important to get those guys some playing time against quality opponents."
Following this weekend's tournament, Northridge will be off until the end of December when the Matadors will return to prepare for the 2011 season-opening UCSB Invitational (Jan. 7-8). Northridge will host Laval University in an exhibition match Wednesday, Jan. 5 at The Matadome.
