Matador Men the Top Collegiate Finisher at UNLV Desert Invitational

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Cal State Northridge men were the top collegiate finishers while the Matador women fifth among college teams Saturday at the UNLV Desert Cross Country Invitational.

Among collegiate runners in the men's 8k race, CSUN junior Hunter Hays finished with the top time of 26:46. Hayes was third overall finishing behind only a pair of unattached runners. Cesar Lopez was one place behind Hays in a time of 27:16. Also for the men's squad, Julio Mora placed 13th (28:26), Masis Hagobian was 15th (28:53), Tawei Ma was 17th (30:37) and Marvin Gonzales finished 18th (32:35).

As a team, the Matador men, with 51 points, edged Dixie State (59 pts.) in the team chase.

For the women, Fany Alvarado was the top CSUN finisher as she placed 10th out of 60 runners. Alvarado clocked a time of 19:14 on the 5k course in leading the Matador contingent of six runners. Ana Rosales was 18th (19:34), Yvonne Castillo-Urbina was 21st (19:55), Araceli Zainos was 30th (20:12), Shane Mullany-Banks was 46th (22:21) and Natalie Wollaston finished 53rd (23:24).

As a team, the Matador women posted 106 points to finish fifth among the six competing teams.
