Ana Rosales Leads Matador Women, Cesar Lopez Paces the Men at Northridge Invitational

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Ana Rosales and Cesar Lopez led their respective Cal State Northridge cross country teams on Saturday as Rosales finished 23rd in the women's 6k and Lopez was 29th in the men's 8k at the Northridge Invitational.

Saturday's invitational was the first cross country meet hosted on the Northridge campus in over 20 years. Head coach Avery Anderson said "We had an excellent turnout and I thought the meet ran very smoothly."

In the first race of the morning, the women's 6k, UNLV's Lauren Pedersen ran the top time finishing in 21:54.16. Unattached runner Arianna Celis was second in 21:55.38 while UC Santa Barbara's Laura Beresford was the third overall finisher and second collegiate runner in a time of 22:04.92.

Among the 99 women's runners, Ana Rosales had CSUN's top time as she finished in 23rd-place in a team-best time of 22:40.38. Also for the Matador women, Fany Alvarado finished 41st in 23:16.94, Yvonne Castillo-Urbina was 47th in 23:24.61, Araceli Zainos was 51st in 23:33.92, Legia Pendergraph was 61st in 23:50.45, Vanessa Carr was 79th in 24:34.52, Kendahl Walk was 93rd in 25:09.06 and Jasmine Cox was 94th in 25:13.63.

As a team, the Matador women finished eighth with 191 total points and an average time of 23:21.13.

In the men's 8k, Houston's Wesley Ruttoh clocked the top finishing time as he ran 24:38.18 to edge unattached runner Sam Hyams (24:45.51) and teammate Yonas Tesfai (24:51.95). UC Santa Barbara's Bryce Rausa finished fourth overall but was the third collegiate finisher in 24:54.92.

Among the 68 men who competed, Lopez had Northridge's best time as he placed 29th in a time of 26:11.65. Also for the CSUN men, Hunter Hays was 42nd in 26:48.33, Julio Mora was 49th in 27:21.80, Ezekial Glass was 56th in 28:00.85, Masis Hagobian was 61st in 28:27.12, Steven Gonzales ws 63rd in 29:21.28, Marvin Gonzales was 64th in 29:23.08 and Daniel Gonzales was 66th in 29:38.06.

As a team the Matadors finished fifth with 152 points and an average time of 27:22.00.
