SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. ---
The Cal State Northridge women's basketball team (13-13, 7-7 Big West) lost 66-49 to Cal Poly Thursday evening at Mott Gym in a Big West Conference contest. Ashlee Guay scored a team-high 17 points, but a quick start by the Mustangs to start the second half proved to be decisive in the victory.
Trailing by just four at the break, CSUN could not stop the Mustangs to start the second half and Cal Poly raced 19-6 in the first few minutes to pull away. CSUN got no closer than 11 the rest of the way.
Guay finished 7-of-14 from the field and added four rebounds and four assists in 29 minutes of action. Thursday marked the 12th time she has led the Matadors in scoring during the 2012-13 season.
Sophomore Randi Friess tied a career high with three 3-pointers and finished with nine points, three steals, two rebounds and two assists.
As a team, CSUN shot 34.5 percent (19-of-55) from the field compared to an even 50 percent (30-of-60) for Cal Poly. Molly Schlemer led all players with a game-high 22 points.
CSUN returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 23 with a 2 p.m. contest at UC Santa Barbara.
