NORTHRIDGE, Calif. ---
The Cal State Northridge women's basketball team has added Serafina Maulupe to its roster for the upcoming 2014-15 season. A sophomore transfer from Virginia Tech, Maulupe will be able to practice with the team in 2014-15 and then have three seasons of playing eligibility for the Matadors.
"We are very excited to add Serafina to our basketball family," CSUN head coach Jason Flowers said. "She is an outstanding young woman who adds quality and character to our program. Having played a season in the ACC, she has high-level experience that cannot be replicated and will be of tremendous value to her going forward."
Maulupe spent the 2013-14 season with Virginia Tech of the Atlantic Coast Conference. With the Hoakies, she appeared in 28 games and made two starts. She scored a career-high 14 points, including a career-high four 3-pointers, against Bucknell. For the season, Maulupe averaged 2.8 points and 1.3 rebounds per game.
"She will make our guards better next year in practice and will be much improved when she's eligible after competing against Ashlee, Janae and Cinnamon," Flowers added.
Originally from Murrieta, Calif., Maulupe prepped at Vista Murrieta High School under head coach Chris Jones. She finished the with second-most points in school history and owns the most 3-pointers in school history. During her career, she earned multiple all-league honors and was the All-CIF Southern Section Division IA Player of the Year.
The addition of Maulupe to the roster now gives CSUN three new players joining the Big West Champions. Tessa Boagni and Caroline Gilling have signed NLIs and are immediately eligible incoming freshmen.
The Matadors return all five starters from last season, including All-Big West honorees Ashlee Guay, Janae Sharpe, Cinnamon Lister and Camille Mahlknecht. However, the roster for the upcoming season is not finalized and is subject to change.
