Northridge Drops 62-41 Decision at UC Riverside

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Cal State Northridge women's basketball team (5-18, 2-8 BWC) fell to UC Riverside, 62-41, Saturday afternoon at the Student Rec Center. Senior Ashley Blake led the Matadors with 14 points, draining four 3-pointers, while freshman Jasmine Erving added 10 points and seven rebounds.

Early in the game, Northridge cut the lead to 11-10 following a pair of free throws from Tonicia Tademy. However, UCR would go on a 23-10 run to close the half and take a 34-20 lead into the locker room. Blake had nine points at the break for CSUN.

As a team, Northridge shot 23.7 percent from the field for the game. In the first half, the team was 7-of-31 from the field and 7-of-28 in the second half. Conversely, the Highlanders hit at 45.8 percent clip for the game. Kemie Nkele led Riverside with 23 points and eight rebounds.

Erving, who entered the game ranked fourth in the league in field goal shooting, finished 4-of-8 from the field and all seven of her rebounds came on the defensive end. Tademy chipped in seven rebounds, five assists and four points for the Matadors.

The Matadors did force 19 UCR turnovers in the game, though they coughed it up 17 times as a team. The Highlanders also won the battle on the glass, out-rebounding Northridge, 42-36.

With only six games left in their Big West schedule, the Matadors return to The Matadome for their next two games. Pivotal contests against UC Irvine (2/18, 7 p.m.) and Cal State Fullerton (2/21, 4 p.m.) are on the docket for next week.

The UC Irvine contest will be CSUN's Pink Zone game where all fans wearing pink will receive free admission. Against the Titans, Northridge welcomes all high school students with a school I.D. into The Matadome for free admission.
