Matadors Fall at Arizona, 73-50

Final Stats

TUCSON, Ariz. - The Cal Sate Northridge women's basketball team (4-19) lost 73-50 to Arizona Tuesday night at the McKale Center in its final non-conference game of the season. Jasmine Erving led all scorers with 21 points, finishing 9-of-17 from the field. Neeta SreeKanth added 10 points for CSUN off the bench.

After trailing only by nine at halftime, CSUN could not cut into the lead in the second half. Arizona went on a 29-12 run after it was 44-32 at 15:08 in the second half to take a commanding 73-44 lead with 1:48 left in the game.

Having started the game 0-for-5, Erving found her rhythm after draining a 3-poiner, her four trey of the season. She then went on to finish 9-for-14 and added five rebounds and one steal and one assist. She is now averaging a team-high 13.2 points for the season.

Sreekanth scored all 10 of her points in the first half and added four rebounds in 14 minutes of action. She is now averaging 3.6 points for the season.

As a team, CSUN shot 34.4 percent from the field (21-of-61) compared to 49.1 percent for the Wildcats (27-of-55). Northridge did hit 6-of-16 3-point attempts with six different Matadors each connecting from long range.

Arizona won the battle on the boards, out-rebounding Northridge 44-28. The Wildcats did finish with 20 turnovers on the game, one more than the Matadors. Northridge managed only two free throws in the game compared to 21 for Arizona.

CSUN returns to Big West action Saturday with a trip to league-leading Cal Poly. Tip-off between the Matadors and Mustangs is slated for 4 p.m.
