Senior Katie Holloway exploded for a career-high 29 points 14 rebounds in the Cal State Northridge women's basketball team's 71-58 loss to UC Santa Barabara at the Thunderdome Thursday night. Sophomore Katrina Thompson also set a new career-high with 13 rebounds in the defeat.
The loss drops the Matadors to 1-25 over all and 0-15 in the Big West Conference. UCSB maintains its lead in the standings, improving to 20-7 and 14-1 in the conference.
Holloway finished 7-of-15 from the field and 15-of-21 from the free throw line, setting a new career high. She had previously recorded 27 points earlier this season against Cal Poly on Jan. 3 and had pulled down 13 rebounds against Idaho on Feb. 12, 2005,
With just one game remaining in her college career, Holloway is averaging 14 points and 7.4 rebounds per game, both career bests. Following her fifth foul, Holloway received a standing ovation from the UC Santa Barbara crowd.
Junior Crystal Hahs finished with a season-high six blocks in the defeat. It marks the fifth time this season she has blocked more than five shots in a game this season and she now stands at 72 for the season and 132 for her career. She also added nine points and four rebounds.
Thompson made her third start of the season and finished with five points and four assists in addition to her 13 boards. She also played a career-high 36 minutes.
The Matadors wrap up their season on Saturday against the Cal Poly Mustangs in San Luis Obispo. Tip-off is slated for 4 p.m. from Mott Gym.
