Eight Matadors Named to 2009-10 Big West Academic All-Conference Winter Sports Team

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Eight Cal State Northridge student-athletes earned a spot on the 2009-10 Big West Academic All-Conference Winter Sports Team, the league announced Thursday. Three Matador women's basketball players joined five swimmers (four women's, one men's) as part of a group of 70 student-athletes honored throughout the league.

Analee Viena-Lota, Bridgette Conejo and Bianca Davies were the women's basketball players named to the squad. Viena-Lota is studying recreational management, Conejo is majoring in kinesiology and Davies is a deaf studies major.

On the women's swim team, Jessica Bley, June Enich, Bethany Scamara and Olesya Senicheva earned a spot on the team for their work in the classroom. Enich and Senicheva are seniors studying psychology and accounting & business systems, respectively. Bley is a sophomore majoring in family consumer sciences while Scamara is a junior studying Kinesiology.

Russell Deghi was the final Matador named to the team, representing the men's swimming program. A sophomore, Deghi is majoring in kinesiology.

As a sport, both men's and women's swimming put 23 student-athletes on the team. Women's basketball added 20 student-athletes while men's basketball chipped in four student-athletes from the league's nine schools.

To be eligible for the team, a student-athlete must maintain a 3.2 GPA, have attained a sophomore standing academically and competed in at least 50 percent of their team's contests.
