Matadors Hang On to Fourth at Conclusion of Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Invitational

PALM DESERT, Calif. - Led by a top-10 finish from Margo Dionsio and a top-20 finish from Kylie Kimura, the Cal State Northridge women's golf team stayed in fourth-place at the conclusion of the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Invitational at The Classic Club.

The Matadors, who carded team rounds of 304-320 in two rounds on Saturday, hung on to fourth-place on Sunday with a team score of 313 which held off San Francisco by two strokes. CSUN's opening round of 304 matched the teams' season-low for 18 holes.

San Diego State overtook Fresno State to claim the team championship after firing a blistering final round 286 on Sunday. The Aztecs finished at 888, 16 shots better than Fresno State (904) with host Wyoming (923) coming third followed by the Matadors (937) and San Francisco (939) rounded out the top-five in the 15-team field.

Dionisio, a junior from Whittier, Calif., led Northridge is scoring for the first time this season as she finished tied for 10th at (+13) 229. Dionisio, who posted consecutive rounds of 78 and was tied for 20th on Saturday, fired a one over-par 73 on Sunday to post her first top-10 finish in three tournaments this season.

Kimura, who was fourth at Cal Poly last week, posted a top-20 finish in the desert as she placed 15th one shot behind Dionisio at (+14) 230. Kimura closed with a round of three over-par 75 on Sunday to overcome a rough second round 83. Kimura's opening round 72 on Saturday is the low 18 by a Matador golfer this season.

Freshman Sharon Shin, who was looking for her second straight top-10 finish, wound up 23rd at (+18) 234. Shin was 13th after pacing CSUN with rounds of 76-77 on Saturday and was looking for three straight rounds in the 70's for the first time this season. But a final round 81 dropped her 10 spots and her three round score of 234 was three shots off her season-best at Cal Poly.

Kendall Patten, who was tied for 40th after two rounds, finished with a round of 84 on Sunday to finish tied for 49th at (+31) 247. Patten posted scores of 78-85-84 over three rounds.

After pacing the Matador effort with a 15th-place finish at the season-opening Circling Raven Invitational, senior Ellen Krausse had her second straight rough tournament. Krausse finished tied for 64th at (+38) 254 after posting rounds of 85-82-87.

Cal State Northridge will wrap up the fall season Nov. 7-8 as the Matadors travel to Arroyo Grande to compete in Cal Poly's Lamkin Grip Invitational at Cypress Ridge G.C.
