Matadors in 14th-Place After Opening Two Rounds of Bruin Wave Invitational

TARZANA, Calif. - The Cal State Northridge women's golf team carded rounds of 334-326 and are in 14th-place heading into Tuesday's final round of the Bruin Wave Invitational at El Caballero Country Club.

On a beautiful afternoon for golf in the San Fernando Valley, the Matadors struggled to a team round of 334 in the first round before knocking off eight shots with a second round 226.

Senior Kylie Kimura leads Northridge as she is tied for 34th-place at 12 over-par 156. Kimura opened Monday with an 80 (+8) before rebounding with a second round of (+4) 76. The senior from Covina, Calif., is just two strokes out of the top-20 with 18 holes yet to play.

The remainder of the squad had trouble reaching the 70's as freshman Sharon Shin posted rounds of 83-82, Kendall Patten finished with rounds of 86-81, Margo Dionisio had rounds of 85-87 and Ellen Krausse wound up with rounds of 90-91.

Shin is currently tied for 58th at (+21) 165, Patten is tied for 63rd at (+23) 167, Dionisio is tied for 70th at (+28) 172 and and Krausse is tied for 77th at (+37) 181.

The host Pepperdine Waves lead the 15-team field as they take an 11-shot lead over Oklahoma State into Tuesday's final round. Individually, San Diego State's Christine Wong (141) carries a two-stroke lead over Pepperdine's Alina Ching (143).

The third and final round be held Tuesday with tee times off the #1 and #10 holes at 7:30 a.m.
