Margo Dionisio Qualifies for U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship
Cal State Northridge junior Margo Dioniso has qualified for the 2012 U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship which opens Monday, June 18 at Neshanic Valley Golf Course in Neshanic Station, NJ.
The tournament begins June 18 as all 156 players will compete in a Stroke Play Qualifying Round. Stroke Play qualifying continues on Tuesday, June 19 with First Round Matches for those players advancing getting underway Wednesday, June 20 with the final match scheduled for Saturday, June 23.
Dionisio, who finished her junior season with a 78.8 stroke average, was one of 16 players to qualify out of the Chino Hills sectional qualifying event held May 31 at Los Serranos Golf & Country Club. She was one of six players who tied for fifth with a round of 71.
This will mark Dionisio's second straight qualifying appearance in the U.S. Women's PubLinks Championship. In her first event in 2011, she posted rounds of 80-85 to finish at (+23) 165 but did not advance out of the Stroke Play rounds at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Ore.
Other Matadors have had success at the U.S. Women's PubLinks as Beth Allen (2000-04) reached the semifinals at Ocean Hammock G.C. (Palm Coast, Fla.) in 2003 before falling to Virada Nirapathpongporn 5 and 4. Nirapathpongporn then lost in the final to future LPGA star Michelle Wie.
Lucy Davies, a Matador from 2004-08, reached the stroke play round following her senior season in 2008.
