Clariss Guce Leads the Field at Santa Clara Colby Classic

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Cal State Northridge junior Clariss Guce continued her solid play of late as she leads the field after the opening round of the Santa Clara Colby Classic at Silver Creek Valley C.C.

Guce, who finished second at the Firestone Grill Invitational in early October, fired an opening round two under-par 70 and will carry a two-stroke lead over a quartet of players into Tuesday's final round. Guce posted a 34 on the front nine and a 36 on the back nine Monday.

Junior Remylee Molyneux is tied for 40th at (+10) 82 after posting a 38 on the front nine and a 44 on the back. Margo Dionisio and Stephanie Bush are both one shot behind Molyneux in a tie for 45th at (+11) 83 while Alana Loyd is tied for 60th at (+15) 87.

As a team, the Matadors sit fifth at 318 but are just five shots behind Cal Poly (313) and 11 strokes behind third place Santa Clara. UC Riverside leads at 301 followed by Ball State at 303. 11 teams are competing in the tournament which wraps up Tuesday.
