Matadors Second Heading Into Final Round of Santa Clara Colby Classic

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Three Cal State Northridge players are in the top-seven as the Matadors are in second place after 18 holes of the Santa Clara Colby Classic Monday at Silver Creek Valley Country Club.

The Matadors, who trail Boise State by two shots, are looking to cap their excellent fall season as CSUN has one tournament remaining at Cal Poly on Oct. 28-29. The Matadors have finished second in each of their last two tournaments.

Cesilie Hagen leads the Matadors as the redshirt freshman is tied for fifth place at three-over-par 75. Hagen fired a 37 on the front nine and a 38 on the back nine on Monday. Hagen is looking for her second top-10 finish of the season.

Ellen Brantberg and Elisabeth Haavardsholm are both tied for sevent at four-over 76. Brantberg, looking for her first top-10 finish of the season, finished with a 38 on both the front and back while Haavardsholm went out with a 40 on the front and came home with a 36.

The Matadors' leading scorer this season Clariss Guce is tied for 14th at six-over 78 after opening with a 37 on the front before finishing with a 41 on the back. Sharon Shin rounded out the lineup and is 35th at 15-over 87.

Santa Clara's Sadie Strain, competing as an individual, is the first round leader (-2, 70) as she leads Boise State's McKenzie Ford by one shot heading into Tuesday's final round.
