YORBA LINDA, Calif. - The Cal State Northridge women's golf team carded a final round 305 which left the Matadors fifth at the conclusion of The Gold Rush presented by Farmers Insurance at Yorba Linda Country Club on Tuesday.
Individually, senior Clariss Guce was CSUN's low finisher for the seventh time in eight tournaments in 2013-14. Guce finished fifth at six-over 222 for her fourth top-10 finish in addition to her three wins. She opened the final round tied for fifth after posting scores of 74-75 on Monday, then fired a one-over 73 on Tuesday but remained fifth.
Arinda Bhanaraksa narrowly missed her second top-10 finish as a final round six-over 78 dropped her into a tie for 11th at 12-over 228. Bhanaraksa opened with rounds of 73-77 and was ninth through 36 holes.
Ellen Brantberg and Cesilie Hagen finished in a tie for 30th at 21-over 237 followed by Elisabeth Haavardsholm in 34th-place. Hagen overcame an opening round 81 to close with rounds of 79-77 while Brantberg finished with rounds of 77-81-79. Haavardsholm posted consecutive rounds of 77 after an opening round 85 to finish at 23-over 239.
In their final tuneup before the Big West Championship (Apr. 13-14), the Matadors posted team rounds of 305-308-305 and finished among the top-five teams for the fifth time this season.
Gonzaga (893) held off Long Beach State (897) by four shots with fellow Big West squads UC Riverside (913) and Cal State Fullerton (913) tying for third in the 11-team field.
