Feb. 28, 2011
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - The Cal State Northridge women's golf team posted a first round 314 and sits 13th with two rounds yet to play at the Bruin Wave Invitational at Robinson Ranch G.C. Kylie Kimura and Margo Dionisio are tied at (+5) 77 to lead the Matadors.
CSUN's first round 314 leaves the Matadors 13th in the 15-team field. Host UCLA has the lead at seven under-par 281 while Northridge is just five shots out of the top-10 heading into Tuesday's second round.
"The girls played 16 or 17 holes really well, it was just one or two holes that gave us trouble," said head coach Bonnie Murphy. "We struck the ball really well today, we just have to eliminate a couple of small mistakes. If we can just turn those mistakes into bogeys we'll be fine."
Kimura and Dionisio both carded a five over-par 77 and are tied for 36th place with seven other golfers. The remainder of the Matador starting five are all bunched in a tie for 57th place. Jennel Alexander, Ashlee Nagamine and Clariss Guce all posted an identical round of (+9) 80. Kendall Patten is also competing individually and is currently in a tie for 67th at (+9) 81.
Glory Yang of UCLA and Malin Enarsson of San Diego State share the first round lead as each carded a three under-par 69.
The Matadors will begin the second round between 9:20 and 10 a.m. off the 10th hole on Tuesday.
