MOORPARK, Calif. - Senior Krystina Gillenwater paced Cal State Northridge with a 22nd-place finish as the Matadors posted a 20-stroke improvement over Tuesday's first round but still finished sixth at the Wave Invitational at Moorpark C.C.
As a team, Northridge posted a final round 307 after carding a 327 in Tuesday's first round. The Matadors finished sixth in the six-team field at 634. Host Pepperdine won its own tournament with a two-round score of three over-par 579.
Gillenwater, who was tied for 29th after an opening-round 81, closed with a 75 on Wednesday to finish tied for 22nd at (+12) 156. Fellow senior Katrina Sutton also made a move on Wednesday as she fired a Northridge-low round of 74 to move from 39th to 25th at (+14) 158. Stephanie Aston finished in a tie for 31st at (+17) 161 after rounds of 82-79 and Ashlee Nagamine was the fourth Matador to finish with a round in the 70's as she posted a 79 on Wednesday to finish at (+21) 165. Moniqie Huijsman, who was tied for 27th after round one, slipped to a final round 85 and finished tied with Nagamine at (+21) 165.
Lady Samson and Maurissa Medina both competed as Individuals with Samson finishing 26th at (+15) 159 after rounds of 82-77 and Medina finishing in a tie for 27th at (+16) 160. Medina was the only Northridge golfer in Tuesday's first round to break 80.
Pepperdine's Taylore Karle (139) won individual medalist honors as she defeated a pair of BYU golfers by one shot.
Cal State Northridge returns to action in two weeks as the Matadors are scheduled to compete at the Sacramento State Invitational.
