Matadors Finish 11th at Anteater Invitational

DOVE CANYON, Calif. - Freshman Margo Dionisio finished a Northridge-best 22nd and the Matadors finished in 11th place as a team at the Anteater Invitational Tuesday at Dove Canyon C.C. Tuesday. The tournament was the final tuneup for the Matadors before the Big West Championship.

Northridge was ninth after an opening round 314 and remained ninth after a second round 316. The Matadors then carded their best round of the tournament with a final round 311 but were overtaken by Oregon State (939) and Cal State Fullerton (940), finishing up with a team score of 941.

San Diego State shot a three round total of 899 (300-299-300) to hold off San Francisco (905) by six strokes. Kentucky was third at (912), host UC Irvine was fourth (914) and Long Beach State was fifth (915).

No Matador golfer was able to crack the top-20 as Dionisio narrlowly missed with a 22nd-place finish. The freshman from Whitter, Calif., improved with each round posting scores of 79-77-75 to finish at (+18) 231.

Maurissa Medina and Clariss Guce both wound up tied for 40th at (+25) 238. Medina began the day in a tie for 31st but struggled to a final round 80 while Guce, who started in 51st place, carded her best round of the tournament with a 76.

In the hunt after an opening round 75, Ashlee Nagamine fell off the pace with rounds of 84 and 80 over the final two rounds to finish at (+26) 239. Kendall Patten rounded out the Matador scoring finishing 63rd at (+32) 245 following rounds of 81-83-81.

Idaho's Kayla Mortellaro earned medalist honors with a (+1) 214 which included a final round 68. UC Irvine's Hillary Packard finished second, three shots behind with a score of (+4) 217.

Cal State Northridge will next compete at the Big West Championship April 18-20 at the San Luis Obispo Country Club. The Matadors will look to improve on last season's sixth-place finish at the conference championship.
