Matadors Fifth After First Round at NAU Mountain Shootout

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Sophomore Ashlee Nagamine is tied for 12th after a first round 79 and Cal State Northridge is in fifth place, 27 shots back of team-leading Florida Southern at the Mountain Shootout Continental Country Club.

In the opening tournament of the fall season, the Matadors posted a team score of 327 and are tied for fifth with Grand Canyon University. Southern Utah (311) is second followed by host Northern Arizona (314) and Arizona's B squad (316).

Nagamine, a sophomore from Aiea, Hawai'i, was Northridge's top performer after round one with a +6, 79. Nagamine shot 39 on the front nine and 40 on the back. Senior Krystina Gillenwater is 17th at +8, 81 and freshman Lady Samson is tied for 19th at +9, 82 in her first collegiate tournament. Monique Huijsman is tied for 29th at +12, 85 and Katrina Sutton is tied for 33rd at +14, 87.

Marianne Andersson of Florida Southern tied the tournament record with a first round four-under par 69.

Round two begins Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
