Matadors In Front After First Round of Aztec Fall Classic

CHULA VISTA, Calif. - Cal State Northridge fired an opening round 301 and carries a six-shot lead into the final round of the Aztec Fall Classic at Salt Creek G.C. Clariss Guce, Margo Dionisio and Ashlee Nagamine are tied for second to lead the Matadors.

Northridge boasts a six-shot lead over both Cal Poly (307) and UC Riverside (307) in the seven-team field. Host San Diego State (317) is fourth, CSU Bakersfield (327) is fifth, Idaho State (339) is sixth and CSU San Marcos (343) is seventh.

Nagamine, a senior, and a pair of freshmen, Guce and Dionisio, are all four shots off the pace set by Maddy Fletcher of Cal Poly who is at two under-par 70. Guce posted a 40 on the front nine and a 34 on the back nine for a (+2) 74. Dionisio posted a pair of 37's and Nagamine went out in 37 and came home in 37 as well. The trio is in a four-way tie with UC Riverside's Amelia Ek.

Junior Maurissa Medina is nine shots back after an opening round (+7) 79 (41-38) while Tammy Panich is tied for 18th at (+9) 81.

The second and final round will start Tuesday at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start. There is some rain expected in the area.
