Matadors Slip to a 14th-Place Finish at Kent Youel Invitational

OAHU, Hawai'i - The Cal State Northridge women's golf team struggled to a final round 324 as the Matadors slipped into a 14th-place tie with Southern Illinois at the Kent Youel Invitational at Kapolei G.C.
Northridge, which was seven shots ahead of Southern Illinois after two rounds on Tuesday, gave it back with a team score of 324 on Wednesday. The Matadors completed the three round tournament with scores of 319-307-324 to finish at 950 (+86). San Francisco claimed the team title with a score of 867 (+3) which was 11 strokes better than UC Irvine and San Jose State which finished at 878 (+14).
Matador freshman Lady Samson overtook teammate Ashlee Nagamine to claim honors as Northridge's low scorer. Samson shot a final round 79 to finish the tournament at 235 (+19). Samson completed rounds of 80-76 on Tuesday. Nagamine finished a shot behind Samson at 236 (+20) to tie for 58th. Nagamine followed up rounds of 77-77 on Tuesday with a final round 82 on Wednesday.
Also for the Matadors, freshman Kendall Patton finished tied for 65th at 239 (+23) after rounds of 80-80-79, senior Katrina Sutton finished tied for 74th at 243 (+27) after rounds of 82-77-84 and junior Monique Huijsman finished 79th at 254 (+38) after rounds of 86-77-91.
Northridge wraps up the fall portion of the 2008-09 schedule next week (Nov. 3-4) as the Matadors play in the Lamkin Cup/Cal Poly Invitational in San Luis Obispo.
