ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. - Cal State Northridge women's golf concluded the fall portion of the 2010-11 season as the Matadors carded a final round 304 to move into fourth place at the Lamkin Grip/Cal Poly Invitational at Cypress Ridge G.C. Junior Kylie Kimura finished tied for second the lead CSUN.
The defending champion Matadors dug themselves a hole with Monday's opening round of 321 but were able to post a 17-stroke improvement with a final round 304 on Tuesday. Northridge finished second which is its third top-five finish in four fall tournaments.
Kimura, who had a solid fall in her first season competing for the Matadors, posted a five-shot improvement from Monday, carding a final round of even-par 73. Kimura, who began the day tied for 19th place, moved into a tie for second one shot off the lead for a two-round (+5) 121. Alexa Kim of Northern Arizona, playing in the final group, posted a final round 73 for a two-round 150 which held off three players, including Kimura, by one shot for the individual title.
Ellen Krausse, who was tied with Kimura for 19th place following Monday's round of 78, also improved Tuesday carding a (+3) 76 to finish tied for 12th at (+8) 154. Margo Dionisio was the third Matador golfer today to score in the 70's on Tuesday as she posted an 11-shot improvement from Monday's 86. Dionisio's (+2) 75 on Tuesday moved her into a tie for 36th at (+15) 161.
Lady Samson finished in a tie for 41st at (+16) 162 following rounds of 82-80 and Jennel Alexander rounded out the Matador fivesome with a 45th place finish after rounds of 83-80 left her at (+17) 163.
Northern Arizona, which started the day six strokes behind first-round leader UC Riverside, carded a final-round 302 total to capture the team title by three strokes over Fresno State. Long Beach State finished third at 617, followed by Cal State Northridge (625) and UC Riverside (628).
