July 22, 2009
MOORPARK, Calif. - Former Cal State Northridge golfer Lucy Davies won the first tournament of her professional career as she won the Moorpark Open as part of the California Players Tour on July 21 at Moorpark C.C.
Davies, who lettered for the Matadors from 2004-08 and was an All-Big West selection in 2006-07, defeated a field which featured several former top-25 collegiate golfers including Laura Luethke (Fresno State), Jenny Lee (Duke), Vanessa Brockett (UCLA), Alexandra Braga (USC) and Marina Choi (Pepperdine).
Davies fired a three-round 215 to hold off Luethke by two shots. She carded an opening round 71 before slipping to a second round 73. Luethke opened with rounds of 73-69 to overtake Davies heading into Tuesday's final round. But Davies responded with a final round 71, while Luethke shot 75, to take home the top prize.
The Nickent California Players Tour is entering its third season and the Tour strives to give developing golfers competitive and professional events to help golfers gain needed experience to reach the next level.
The Nickent CPTour offers golfers 54-hole tournaments played in a college two-day format (36/18 hole) without a cut from June-September. October-December the tour will offer 54 hole tournaments in a traditional 3 day format without a cut.
