Chloe McDaniel Named Candidate for Senior CLASS Award

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. ---

Cal State Northridge women's soccer senior Chloe McDaniel has been named a candidate for the Senior Class Award, Premier Sports Management announced Wednesday. A center back from Palmdale, Calif., McDaniel was one of 30 candidates selected from a national pool that best exemplify the award's four tenants: community, classroom, character and competition.

In her third-straight year as a team captain, McDaniel enters her final campaign at CSUN looking to build off a strong 2012 season. She set a new career high with two goals and five points last year and has three goals, two assists and eight points in her career.

Last year, she earned Big West Conference Defensive Player of the Year and NSCAA All-West Region Third Team honors. She helped anchor a CSUN defense that posted an 11-5-6 overall record, claimed the Big West Tournament Championship and advanced to the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament.

Off the pitch, McDaniel was named a 2013 Big West Scholar Athlete, an award reserved for the top student-athletes in the Big West Conference. She carries a strong GPA in Kinesiology and has served as a mentor and tutor for her fellow student-athletes.

McDaniel is also actively involved in her hometown church and has served as a volunteer coach for several summer camps.

"I am flattered to be named a candidate for this award and want to thank my teammates, coaches and the CSUN staff for all their help and hard work," McDaniel said. "I think a lot of the student-athletes at CSUN embody the qualities this award emphasizes and I am proud to have been selected."

With the nomination, McDaniel becomes the second-straight Matador to be named a candidate for the award. In 2012, former Matador Cynthia Jacobo became the first student-athlete in CSUN history to be named a candidate.

Her head coach, Keith West, saw the award as a deserving recognition.

"Chloe personifies what it means to be a leader both on the field and in the classroom," West said. "She never settles for anything and this award represents the culmination of a lot of hard work and dedication."

McDaniel and CSUN open the 2013 season on Friday, Aug. 23 at Arizona State. Kick off between the Matadors and Sun Devils is slated for 7 p.m.

Two days later, the Matadors will travel to face No. 5 UCLA at 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on the Pac-12 Network.
