CSUN Blanks Tulsa 1-0 behind Dickson's First Career Goal
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. ---
Sophomore Tabatha Dickson scored her first career goal in the 31st minute of action to help lift the Cal State Northridge women's soccer team (4-5) to a 1-0 victory over Tulsa Friday evening at Matador Soccer Field. Dickson collected a cross from Leandra Walker and whipped in a left-footed shot into the side netting to give the Matadors their third-straight victory.
Although the Golden Hurricane outshot CSUN 14-9 for the contest, Dickson was the only player to find the netting Friday evening. The assist was Walker's second of the season.
Tulsa's best chance of the contest came after CSUN's goal in the first half. Following a goal kick, the Golden Hurricane thought they had a tying goal but it was waved off by the referee because of a foul.
In net, Cynthia Tafoya made three saves to post her first career shutout. She faced seven shots in each half and had two stops in the second half as Tulsa increased their pressure.
For Tulsa, Hayley Harryman had four saves in defeat. Tulsa had two players see the yellow card as the Golden Hurricane had 18 fouls. Northridge did not have a player booked and was whistled for nine fouls.
The shutout was CSUN's first of the season. The Matadors are now 23-13 (.639) in 1-0 games since the start of the 2009 season.
CSUN will look to keep the momentum rolling Sunday when it hosts San Diego. Kick off between the Matadors and Toreros is slated for 1 p.m. The CSUN men's team will also play Sunday, hosting UCLA at 7 p.m. Separate tickets are required for each contest.
