UC Davis midfielder Ashley Edwards scored in the 106th minute of double overtime to give the Aggies a 1-0 victory over the visiting Cal State Northridge women's soccer team (5-10-1, 0-4-1 Big West) Sunday afternoon at Aggie Soccer Field. The Matadors posted 12 shots and Kendall Moskal rang one off the post, but CSUN saw its five-match winning streak against the Aggies snapped.
Looking for any and all points possible in search of a berth into the Big West Tournament, the Matadors dropped a tough overtime affair Sunday. Edwards collected a cross from Sienna Drizin and scored to the near post at 105:50 to end the contest.
CSUN registered 12 shots and put four on goal. In the first half, Kendall Moskal had a header carom off the post while Hannah Wissler and Amanda Smith each placed shots on goal. In the first overtime frame, Chloe McDaniel put the Matadors' final shot on frame.
In net, Cynthia Tafoya had four saves for the Matadors with all the stops coming after the first half. She now has a 1.41 goals-against average and 53 saves on the year.
UC Davis had nine shots and the teams combined for 26 fouls with no cautions.
CSUN returns to Matador Soccer Field next week for its final two home matches of the 2013 season. On Friday, Oct. 25, the Matadors host Long Beach State at 7 p.m. Two days later, senior day festivities will commence before a 6 p.m. contest with UC Irvine.
