Tiana Fujimoto and Male' Fresquez scored for the Rainbow Wahine to lift Hawai'i to a 2-0 victory over the Cal State Northridge women's soccer team (6-12-1, 1-6-1 Big West) Sunday afternoon in Honolulu. The match represented the final contest for four Matador seniors: Haley Chee, Chloe McDaniel, Amanda Smith and Wendy Warner.
Fujimoto struck first for the host side, scoring her 10th of the season in the 31st minute. Skye Shimabukuro had the assist on the play. Right after halftime, the Rainbow Wahine doubled their lead on the goal from Fresquez. Ashley Haruki earned an assist on the play.
In net, Cynthia Tafoya made two saves in 80 minutes of action. Freshman Rebecca Harperplayed the final 10 minutes of the contest. Tafoya finished the year 6-9-1 overall with a 1.40 goals-against average, 59 saves and a .720 save percentage in 1,474 minutes in net.
The Rainbow Wahine victory snapped a four-match winning streak for the Matadors in the series. CSUN finished the season ninth in the Big West with four points.
For CSUN, the contest capped off the careers of its senior quartet. McDaniel was the 2012 Big West Defensive Player of the Year and a 2013 Big West Conference Scholar Athlete. She was a three-year team captain and appeared in 77 matches during her career, the sixth-most in school history.
Smith missed only two matches in her career and appeared in 79 career contests, the third-most in school history. She also had 10 career assists, tying her with three other Matadors for sixth in school history.
